Muscle tissue

Muscle tissue cells are called muscle fibers and have the ability to contract and lengthen.

This property we call contractility. These cells have the elongated shape and promote muscle contraction, which allows the various movements of the body.

Muscle tissue can be of three types: smooth muscle tissue, skeletal striated muscle tissue and striated cardiac muscle tissue.

Types of muscle tissues. The purple dots are the nuclei of muscle cells.

Smooth muscle tissue presents a slow and involuntary contraction, ie, does not depend on the will of the individual. It forms the musculature of internal organs such as the bladder, stomach, intestines and blood vessels.

Skeletal striated muscle tissue exhibits rapid and voluntary contraction. It is linked to the bones and acts on the body movement.
